Leaving from the station opposite the Boating Lake, the train runs through trees and shrubs before curving round to run parallel to the North Car Park – please note there are no facilities to board the train at this point. The train continues alongside the crazy golf course before curving through an S bend & over the level crossing for the playground. Shortly after we pass the site for the new adventure play ground before running parallel to the walled Lathyrus Gardens – now used as an educational facility.
The line now forms a sharp curve to cross over the main level crossing adjacent to the London Road car park entrance – again there is no provision to join or leave the train here. After curving again through the S bend under the trees and bushes we cross the pathway and take the right-hand fork on the set points which takes on the upper loop. This heads up the hill into the newly landscaped section of the park. Rounding yet another left-hand curve we have reached the highest point on the circuit and we run alongside the two conservation ponds before heading downhill to approach the station. The locomotive and carriage servicing and storage shed with its three tracks can be seen on the left as we swing over the point-work and back into the station. On wet days or when adhesion might a problem on the upper loop, you will find your train taking the left hand fork at the afore-mentioned points and onto the bottom loop. This is the original route the railway took before the park was landscaped as it is today. The trains winds it's way through the bushes and trees before coming out into the open and across a small path leading to the conservation ponds. Finally the train rattles past the wall of the engine shed before slowing for the S bends alongside the tracks leading to the shed, and then over the points and the level crossing adjacent to the station.
